Cherry Angiomas

What Are Cherry Angiomas?

Cherry angiomas are small, bright red or purplish skin lesions that can be flat or slightly raised. They develop due to a localized collection of capillaries (tiny blood vessels) beneath the skin.

These lesions can appear anywhere on the body but are most commonly observed in mid-adulthood and beyond. Cherry angiomas are generally harmless and benign, though many people choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons or to prevent accidental bleeding.

Cryotherapy Treatment Technique for Cherry Angiomas

Cherry angiomas are treated using precise cryotherapy, with the applicator held approximately 4 mm above the skin at a 90-degree angle. The lesion is treated with a direct, controlled application, allowing a mild white frost to form evenly over the area. A small, raised white blister indicates a successful treatment.

After the initial freeze, the tissue is allowed to thaw for around 30 seconds before a second freeze is applied. As the skin rewarms, mild redness may appear due to the body’s natural inflammatory response.

Following treatment, cherry angiomas typically shrink and gradually disappear over a period of 2 to 6 weeks, leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.
